In a night celebrating African musical talent and culture, the 2023 Trace Live Awards saw prominent Nigerian artists, including Davido, Rema, Asake, Yemi Alade, and Burna Boy, emerge as big winners in various categories.
Davido, one of Nigeria's most iconic Afrobeat artists, claimed two prestigious awards. He secured the title of "Best Male Artist" and also triumphed in the "Best Collaboration" category for his song "Unavailable," a collaboration with Musa Keys.
In the process, he outshone tough competition from fellow artists such as Fireboy DML, Oxlade, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, and others.
Rema, another rising star in the Nigerian music scene, had an exceptional night, clinching two accolades. His hit track "Calm Down" earned him the title of "Song of the Year." Furthermore, he was honored as the "Best Global African Artist" in a tie with Nomcebo.
Asake, a talent on the rise, secured the award for "Best African Anglophone Artist," cementing his place in the industry. The acclaimed Burna Boy's album "Love Damini" took home the coveted "Album of the Year" Award.
In addition to these accolades, the evening featured the presentation of lifetime achievement awards to two Nigerian legends, Mr. Eazi and 2Face. Yemi Alade stood out as the sole female Nigerian artist to receive recognition, earning the "Best Video" award.
The 2023 Trace Live Awards, held in Kigali, Rwanda, marked a significant event in the music calendar. These awards were introduced by the Trace platform with the aim of honoring exceptional Afro-influenced musicians from across the African continent.
